Two People Hit By Car In Downtown Cedar Rapids

Actually, it was a Chevy 1500 Suburban. We were going out for a night on the town (dinner and a movie) with some friends. While crossing 1st Avenue, the Suburban crashed into Tyler and I. We were in the cross walk and had the walk signal. We had made it thru the first lane of the road when the truck started to move. When we realized that the truck was going to hit us, it was too late. Tyler was able to jump back so the truck only hit his arm. I, unfortunately, couldn't jump as far. I ended up diving out of the way. The truck hit the back of my left leg and sent me rolling across the asphalt. I have to say that road rash is possibly one of the most painful injuries I have ever received.

Tyler ended up with a scratch and bruise on his arm. When he woke up this morning, his back was hurting him. So, we're thinking that the act of jumping out of the way of the truck or getting struck by the truck caused him to wrench his back and re-aggrivate his bulging disks.

I ended up in the ER for 5 hours on Friday night. I had 14+ X-Rays and a cat scan. I also had to have an IV. And the constrast material for the cat scan made me very-very nauseous. My left leg is completely bruised. My left elbow is bruised so badly I can't put any pressue against it. My left wrist is sprained. My right wrist is either severly sprained or broken - its in a splint till I can go and see a specialist. My left toe is bruised so its hard for me to walk. My right knee is also bruised. I also have road rash and abrasions on my knees and elbows. I also apparently had my first concussion. I didn't notice it till after I got out of the ER and into our car. When I tried to lean my head back, I hit the huge bump on the back of my head on the head rest. That would probably explain why I had a hard time remembering my address after the accident. :-)

So, in summary Tyler and I are in pretty sad shape.
