Subtracting the Addition

We finally got started on tearing down the beauty salon addition this weekend!

Earlier in the week we managed to get the new entry door installed, so we could still close up the house once we started the tear-down.

A wall in the machine shed had the same thickness lumber as the sheathing of the main house's original home, so we were able to seal up the wall without too much trouble (aside from a few trips to town for nails). Once the sheathing was back in place, the doors and windows of the addition were removed, followed by the siding and sheathing.

Even though the frame still stands, we think the place already looks better. I think it smells a lot better too. The sheathing on the addition was some strange particle board material, which had water damage in places. It wouldn't come off in much more than a few square feet at a time, so removal took some time.

As a result of the weekend demo was yet another full 20 cu. yd. dumpster. We need to call ABC Disposal and get that replaced before next weekend, so we can tear down the remaining roof and frame.
