A Day Worthy of Vacation

Today was a day worthy of taking vacation. Here's the interesting part... I spent the whole day working. :-)

My parents decided that finishing fencing off the SW paddock was too much for me to handle. So, they decided to drive all the way down from MN to help me get my fence done. Since this was MEA weekend, my mom also had some vacation time. So, my parents decided to take their vacation and work right alongside me on my fence.

The day before, I finished putting in the corner posts and t-posts. I bought the last of the fencing supplies (barbless wire, fence insulators, fence staples, etc...). My dad brought the good ol' fencer. This is not the whimpy little fencers they sell in the stores. This is a FENCER! The kind of fencer that can drop a full grown bull to his knees.

When my parents got down, my dad showed me how to run a bracing wire around the corner posts to make them a bit more solid. After he showed me how that was done, Mom and I put the insulators on all the T-posts. Then, Dad and I started running the barbless wire.

We started fencing around noon. We stopped fencing around 6:30. Now, add on six hours of drive time and my parents had quite the long day. But, I really-Really-REALLY appreciate them coming down! We were able to finish getting the fence in for the SW paddock. And, Dad was able to show me how to set the fencer up. Now, all I have to do is find a short in the fence, fix it, and finish running a little more electric wire and the paddocks will be all set for Casper's and Buster's arrival at Halcyon!
