Building Permit Issued
Tyler and I finally have our building permit. We submitted our plans and fees over two weeks ago. The delays have been caused by the numerous questions the building inspector had and the Thanksgiving holiday.
The building inspector wanted things like:
- The dimensions and spacing of floor joists.
- A current diagram of the building's foundation.
These were all reasonable requests. But, it was frustrating because these were items that were not going to be impacted by our current renovation. I heard Tyler reached the ultimate frustration level when the building inspector informed him that it would be a better idea to replace the foundation before renovating the upper part of the house. Tyler explained that was our original plan. But, due to the incompetence of appraisers in the area when it came to future value appraisals, we couldn't go that route. I guess, after that, the building inspector decided we knew what we were doing and issued us the permit... FINALLY!
Unfortunately, ther permit hassle is far from over. Tyler and I need to get our electrical and plumbing permits next week. To get these, we will need to have Tyler take the electrical and plumbing exams and provide a detailed diagram of both systems to the inspectors. So, hopefully, that won't hold us up too much and we'll still be on schedule to start hanging drywall over the Christmas break.
