Windows Are Installed!
Tyler and I finished installing the last of the windows on Friday morning. We actually had the last one in on Thursday night. But, we forgot to check to make sure it was level - and of course it wasn't. So, we had to chim it into place on Thursday morning.
The whole process was made way easier by the boom lift. We had the boom lift from 4pm on Friday to 5pm on Tuesday. Since we took Monday off to celebrate Christmas, we really only used it for 3 days (Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday). In that time, we...
- striped the East and North exterior walls of all vinyl siding, styrofoam insulation, and lap siding.
- put up TyVek house wrap.
- installed 8 windows (1-4'x4', 1-double casement, 6-casements).
Unfortunately, we had to finish the last 3 windows without the use of the boom lift. This ended up making the whole process much more drawn out - 3 times more drawn out to be exact. It took us all of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to finish the last 3 windows and the remaining TyVek on the second story. So, even though the scaffolding only costs $30/week while the boom lift costs $200/day, the boom lift is still well worth the money. Plus, the boom is a lot safer. The operator is hoisted up in a cage to which they're attached via a safety harness. With the scaffolding, the user simply scampers up the ladder and stands on a platform. There are no cages or safety harnesses to prevent the user from falling.
So, Tyler and I pick the boom lift hands down.
