Gotta break it before you fix it...
I'm preparing to work the drain waste vent
(DWV) stack for the house. This poses a problem, as we need to install the new fixtures, which are in completely new locations in the house, while still having the only currently working toilet, which will eventually be removed from its location, remain functional.
The location of the main stack vent has already been selected, and can't be moved at this point - we needed to make that decision back when the roof went up, as we did't want to cut a hole in a brand new roof if we could help it. Following the main stack down to the first floor, it punches through into what is the old main floor bathroom. From there, we temporarily bent it over behind the toilet, and tied it into the old stack.
Now that I'm going to tie in the new fixtures, which are mostly on the second floor, I need to get some working space under the second floor joists, where the stack comes down. This means that the ceiling and the wall behind the washer and dryer need to go. This will basically make the first floor one big-ass room. Fortunately, there is no one around us, so we'll still have basically the same privacy in the bathroom as we did before, plus we have the one load-bearing wall in the middle of the house to use as a divider.
I hope to have the demo done early this weekend, so there should be more photos of destruction in the next few days.
