Bargain Window Shopping

With so many materials to purchase for the house, Tyler and I are always on the lookout for bargains. One of the items I was on the look out for was a window to place in the south end of the attic. Tyler wanted to put a vent up since it would be cheaper than a window. I wanted to put in a window to get more natural light into the attic. But, my window was a lot more expensive than his vent since I wanted it to be round. So, we compromised and Tyler agreed that if I could find a suitably priced window, we'd get a window for the attic.

Well, a few weeks ago I found a special order octagon window in the clearance bin at Lowe's. Originally $210, the window was now marked at $169. I asked Tyler, "If I can get it for a $100, could we use it in the attic?"

Tyler checked out the window. With it's white exterior finish, champagne hardware, window screen, grilles and jamb extension he couldn't find anything wrong with it and agreed.

Two more weeks went by and the window dropped to $129. Close but not close enough, I decided to wait a little bit longer. Today, when we went in, I noticed the price had been dropped to $116. So, I decided to haggle and see if I could get them to take a $100 for the window.

I walked up to the associate in the windows department and asked if they'd accept an offer on the window. She said that she might be able to and so I said, "How about $100?"

She shook her head and said, "We can do that."

And I thought, "Damn, I should have started at $90."

But, I ended up with my window in the attic for $100 and racked up another $110 in savings on materials.
