Halfway Plumbed

Well, the plumbing is halfway done. For those of you who didn't know, we had out plumbing inspection this morning.

The morning started at 5:30am. As with all deadlines, there were a few ends that Tyler and I needed to finish up before the inspector showed up. We took care of most of them and then headed into town around 7:00am for some supplies from Menards... and some caffeine from our local coffee shop.

The testing of the supply lines went off without any problems. Tyler used his air compressor to pressurize all of the pex tubing to 50 psi for about 15 minutes. Satisfied, the inspector checked off on the supply lines.

Unfortunately, the DWV did not do as well. First, the plumber wanted a 2 inch supply for the washer drain rather than a 1 1/2 inch supply. Plus, a different inspector had told us that the tub should be in place for open wall inspection. Unfortunately, we came to find out that this was not so and that installing the tub was actually going to impede the inspection of the DWV. Why? Well, with the tub in place it was much harder to pressurize the DWV to 5 psi. We tried several different ways to get the system pressurized, but there was no luck. The inspector agreed that we could cap the drain going to the tub and just test portion of the DWV going to the tub. Since we were going to need time to implement the changes, the inspector agreed to come back later in the day.

So, after trip #3 to Menard's for the morning, Tyler and I started working on fixing the washer drain and getting the DWV pressurized. We were able to get the drain swapped out with minimal difficulty. Then, we switched to trying to pressurize the DWV by plugging the bottom and dropping water into the top. Unfortunately, we discovered a couple small leaks in the DWV. Dissappointed, we called the inspector and told him that we'd have to hold off on the inspection of the DWV.

The inspector did have some good news for us. Since he signed off on the rest of the work we'd done upstairs, we could start putting up drywall in all of the rooms that didn't have any plumbing. This meant that we could do all of the bedrooms and foyer. So, DRYWALL WILL START THIS WEEKEND!!!
