Yup, you read that right. Not only are we renovating a house, but we're also renovating a tub.

Why are we renovating a tub? The main reason is because we believe it is original to the house. And, since it is one of the only remaining original details, we feel like it's our responsibility to preserve it. That, and it is also a decent size - 60". And the most important reason... $$$. To purchase a new fiberglass surround would cost $500-600. To have the tub sand blasted and refinished would cost $1,000. Stripping it and refinishing it ourselves will cost ~$150. Plus, if we refinish it ourselves we get to purchase a heat gun!
