Our First Texture
What was our major accomplishment for the weekend? We did our first drywall texture!
Just like everything else we've done, the worst part of texturing the walls was the prep work. I spent most of Saturday sanding down the finish coat of drywall. And yes, it's true... sanding drywall is a very dirty job. If you don't believe me, just check out the following picture. I must warn you though, I'm not at my most photogenic when covered in drywall dust.
With the walls sanded, we now needed to protect them from any inadvertent splatters that might happen while we're texturing the ceiling. Did you know that not all goop that is propelled upwards goes upwards? Sometimes it lands back down on your face. Other times it shoots off to the side and hits the wall. This meant that Tyler and I needed to hang a big plastic sheet over the walls.
Next, Tyler mixed up the texture. We followed the directions, but as you can see the directions did not leave much room left in the bucket. It took Tyler a long time to mix up the texture since he was trying very hard to not send it splattering about.
All of the hard work paid off though. Once the mixture was ready to be applied, I used the air compressor and hopper to spray it up at the ceiling. After a half hour, I went back and used a 12" knife to knockdown the lumps.
