The Tile Equation

Amazingly, if you take the scribbled calculations of two engineers plus a tile saw and the constant nagging of the wife (not factored into the above equation) the end result is a pretty fantastic looking floor!
Tyler's friend and co-worker, Joe, came over last weekend and helped Tyler layout the tile for the guest bathroom floor while I worked on mudding the master bedroom. They started by scratching out some calculations for the floor. The trick was to get the "rug" feature of the floor centered in the area between the walls, vanity, toilet and tub. The "rug" feature is the rectangular portion of the floor that has the pebble border and diamond pattern.
Once Tyler and Joe were confident that they had everything planned out and they were through answering all of my questions (what Tyler likes to call nagging), they headed out to get the tile saw setup. As you can see from the second picture in the equation, this was a lot of fun to watch. Even our cat, Washu, was trying to provide some helpful supervision. After a suggestion of mine that perhaps the base was upside down, Tyler and Joe got the tile saw setup and powered up.
After Joe filled up the basin of the tile saw with water, Tyler decided it was time to start cutting his first tile. When Tyler decided to flip on the switch, Joe and I jumped back to a safe viewing distance (approximately 10 ft). As I prepared to capture this auspicious moment on camera, Joe asked if I was getting ready to capture the blood spurting from Tyler's fingers. I said, "Well, I have to have some proof that I didn't do it to him."
Well, despite the comments from the peanut gallery, Tyler cut through his first tile with no problems!

Tyler and Joe spent the remainder of Saturday cutting the tile for the "rug". We stopped working around 9:30pm and decided to relax by going to see the Simpsons Movie. Joe stopped out again on Sunday and helped Tyler finish laying the rest of the tile.

Katherine, I am AMAZED by the effort and creativity demonstrated by this website. You are AWESOME.
The pictures are showing up for me now that I am using Safari instead of Explorer. Glad to see Tyler was wearing safety goggles while cutting tile. Things are really starting to come together for you guys.
Keep up the good work.
