Our Little Sanctuary

Well, it's finally happened. No, Tyler and I aren't expecting the timer to go off on any buns in the oven (Sorry Mom & Dad). We're finally living upstairs!

So, why the reference to buns? Well, when we called to tell my mom and dad the exciting news, my dad asked if he needed to start getting the pony and a pony cart ready. That is his way of asking if a baby is on the way. I replied, "No." And, Tyler replied, "Well, now it's just kind of a let down."

Despite the disappointment, my parents were still very excited to hear the news that we were finally living upstairs. Let's see... we bought the house in February 2006 and we moved upstairs in November 2007. That only took 21 months - not quite 2 years.

Aside from actually finishing the upstairs, the hardest part of moving everything up was getting the King sized mattress up the old staircase. How'd we do it? Well, we finally ended up turning the mattress into a burrito. Mighty muscles Tyler was able to fold his end and hold onto it. Wimpy wrist Katherine had to employee a twine string to keep her end bundled together. But, with a little twine string and a lot of shoving, groaning and yelling we finally managed to get the mattress up to the second floor. Thankfully, the boxsprings were two twin boxsprings. So, it was no problem getting the rest of the bed upstairs.

With the bed upstairs, I went to work setting up the bedroom while Tyler went to work hooking up the main water supply to the new plumbing. By the end up the night, we were enjoying our new digs upstairs after having taken a nice long and relaxing bubble bath.
