Buyer Beware

You'd think that a day that started with such a beautiful sunrise would the start of a wonderful day... GUESS AGAIN!!

Just the night before, we were able to get somebody out to drain our basement again - yes that blasted graywater system got blocked again and we had another indoor pool. The good news, we were able to find someone to drain the basement for a mere $85 vs the usually $300+ charged by Mr. RotoRooter. The bad news, as the water levels in the basement fell so did the temperature in the house.

Around 10 o'clock, Tyler and I noticed that the upstairs was actually chilly (around 64 degrees). Tyler went to check the furnace and found that it no-workie. Since it was close to bedtime anyways, we hunkered down under one of our Christmas presents (a down comforter) and made plans to call the furnace repair guy in the morning.

The furnace repair made for quite the interesting experience. After almost launching by furnace into orbit by throwing a lit rag in to get rid of the "extra" fuel in the blast chamber and having flames shooting from it for 10 minutes, the furnace repair guy proclaimed that it was going to be $1,200 to fix our furnace and that we should probably just get a new one. Now, we're only dealing with THIS furnace repair guy because he was the only one we could find that services Type-II fuel oil furnaces. So, if I was going to be buying a new furnace I was going to go with the furnace guy we actually like - Kelly.

I called Kelly and explained everything to him. After giving him the name of Mr. Lit-Rag-Explosion, he said that he'd find me the name of someone else - I figured that was a bad sign. Long story short, Kelly's guy came out the next morning and not only repaired our furnace but threw in a tune-up for the low-low price of $188. I think I'll be talking to Mr. Lit-Rag-Explosion's manager about possible overcharges we've paid while doing business with their company.  Did I mention they were out just 3 months ago and charged us $1,000 for services during that visit!
